‘Industry hasn’t tapped my full potential’- latest news in bollywood

Mumbai: He has proven his versatility time and again but actor Manoj Bajpayee, who has been a part of the Hindi film industry for around 20 years, says showbiz has not utilised even 20 per cent of his potential.

latest news in bollywood.

“I have no resentment towards the industry but at the same time I would say the industry has not utilised even 20 per cent of my potential. I like to work with like-minded people and right now I am enjoying what I am doing. I am in a very happy space,” he said.
The 44-year-old’s career got a boost post Satya which brought him commercial success as well as a national award. Later, he featured in movies like Kaun?ShoolZubeidaa and Pinjar.
His next film Satyagraha, directed by Prakash Jha, releases on Friday.
Meanwhile, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma who had directed Satya is now set to make Satya 2. Manoj, who had played the iconic role of a gangster named Bheeku Matre, believes the sequel will help RGV bounce back.
“I met him at his daughter’s pre-wedding bash but we didn’t talk films. He will make a fantastic film with Satya 2. I am simply blinded by his genius and I am what I am because of him,” said Manoj.
Of late, none of RGV’s films have done well at the box office. But Manoj has “no reason to doubt his capability”

No cold war with Irrfan: Nawazuddin- latest news in bollywood

Mumbai: Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is upset with rumours of a cold war between him and The Lunchbox co-actor Irrfan. He says fighting with his “senior” is something he can’t even think of.

“I don’t understand from where these rumours come from. I am very disappointed. Irrfan is my senior. He is 10 years senior to me. I can’t even think of fighting with him,” said Nawazuddin.
“I have learnt so much from him, and such rumours will only affect our relationship,” he added.
A reported rift between the two is said to have intensified recently when the makers of The Lunchbox asked Irrfan to supervise the international marketing campaign. Even Nawazuddin feels he has his own popularity and could very well sell the film with his credentials.
Nawazuddin has rubbished it all. He said, “I don’t believe this. Irrfan is popular not only in India, but also at an international level. So, there was absolutely no fight on this.
The Lunchbox is releasing in India Sep 20.

Bebo speaks up on Mum gangrape-latest news in bollywood

Mumbai: In the backdrop of the Mumbai gangrape case, actress Kareena Kapoor, 32,  feels that its time to reassess things and bring in stricter laws to ensure women safety in India.
“It’s difficult to be secure in India. It is not safe. I think we need to change our laws, we need to reassess things. Because the youth of the country is in anger...I am hoping through them we will be able to reassess laws of this nation,” Kareena said.

“These unfortunate incidents used to happen in small places.. and now in Mumbai. Rapes are happening all over the country..there are places where things are not getting reported... May be I feel it is because of lack of education,” she said.
“My sister has a six-year-old daughter so we want her to be safe when she grows up. And I am hoping that when she grows up there will be some kind of change in the society at least by then she would be 16,” she added.  The  actor feels media has a responsibility to disseminate information and at the same time highlight the guilty but “cinema cannot provide a solution to any problem in general.”
“Cinema is not meant to do something, the government must do something. We are actors we are not politicians. It is a bonus if there is an inspirational feeling among people after watching a film. But ultimately it’s a film so it is meant to entertain people,” she said. On August 22, a 23-year-old photo journalist was gangraped by five men in the desolate Shakti Mills in Lower Parel when she went there on an assignment alongwith her male colleague.

Satyagraha timely wake-up call-latest news in bollywood

Subhash K Jha:
Prakash Jha’s Satyagraha bears no thematic relation to any of his earlier political dramas. It is certainly not a sequel to his Raajneeti. And yes, it is most certainly based on the movement that Anna Hazare started against corruption. To say that Bachchan’s character Dwarka Anand in Satyagraha, lovingly called Dadujee by one and all, and Dadujee’s turbulent relationship with the go-getting NRI-turned-Gandhian-nationalist Maanav Raghvendra (Devgn) does not bear a resemblance to the Anna Hazare-Arvind Kejriwal equation, would be plain blindness.

What Jha and his very able astute and politically informed co-writer and long-time collaborator Anjum Rajabali have done, is to collect together the thematic threads of Anna Hazare’s mass anti-corruption movement and weave it into a gripping, thoughtful, hard-hitting and inspirational drama which contains all the resonances of a newspaper headline, and wrap it up in the semantics of cinema with as little creative violence as possible even while addressing an inherently violent issue.
In Satyagraha, one feels the relationship between Bachchan’s character and his widowed daughter-in-law (Amrita Rao) could have gone a little further. But then Bachchan is the kind of extraordinary actor who can say so much about his character’s emotional environment in the most meagre playing-time.
There is little time for emotions in Jha’s world of politics and national awakening. Dwarka Anand gets just one sequence to show how much he misses his son.
In my favourite sequence, Bachchan shares a son-like camaraderie with Devgn’s character telling him how he would miss Devgn when he leaves the next day. It is a deeply contemplative moment where Devgn reacts to Bachchan’s supple emotions with rare care and attention. Hold on to these infrequent episodes of emotional expression in this turbulent tale of awakening the nation’s conscience where there is no room for individual’s self-indulgence.
In fact, Devgn’s growing fondness for the TV journalist Yasmin Ahmed (Kareena Kapoor, lighting up every frame) and the sudden burst of acutely romantic song seems to belong to some other time-zone.
You see, there’s the business of the country’s future to be attended to. And who better at creating a cinema of socio-political reform than Prakash Jha? The director constantly wrenches away from his individuals’ personal feelings to focus on the broader picture.
Jha’s narration gets busy with the business of swooping down on huge crowds of anxious restless people looking for a way out of the country’s scam-frozen destiny. It’s a world built on the premise of socio-political reform that Mahatma Gandhi and Jayaprakash Narain dreamt of and Anna Hazare attempted to bring to fruition.
There’s an abundance of references to mobilisation of youth power through the Internet and mobile. Satyagraha probes and questions the validity and motivation of any mass movement that is born out of an inividual’s genuine passion for reform. The pitfalls of such a mass movement are brought into play with a vingery mixture of broad drama and subtle humour.
It is no coincidence that the film’s arch-villain is a politiciam portrayed as a kind of evil clown. Manoj Bajpayee plays the scummy ‘scammy’ brazely corrupt politician with lipsmacking relish. His smirky villainous neta act works as a perfect foil to Bachchan’s controlled never overdone messianic act.
Devgn, in the all important role of the ambitious entrepreneur who becomes a catalyst for social change, could have taken his character much further down the road of self-articulation. On the other hand, Arjun Rampal has limited scope as a goonda-turned-self-appointed youth leader. He has great fun sinking his teeth into the rustic accent and boorish body language.
While the three main actors play off with each other with supple grandeur, some other supporting actors and characters are played at much too broad a pitch to be effective. When a corrupt policeman takes off his uniform to join the mass movement, you feel the script is teetering dangerously towards over-idealism.
But the message must be, and is, loud and clear. It is time for the nation to chase away damnation before it’s too late. Jha’s film is a timely wakeup warning, a massive clarion call for the conscience, brilliantly manifested in Prasoon Joshi’s title song which tells us enough is enough, and listen... getting Gandhian on the cancerous community of corrupt politicians is a symptom of cowardice.
Satygraha conveys the uncontrollable anger and energy of a nation on the brink. For telling it like it is and for creating a compelling film out of the raw material of present-day corruption, the film deserves a standing ovation.

Rampal Bebo’s new Bodyguard?-latest news in bollywood

Mumbai: Although it was Salman Khan who played Kareena Kapoor’s ‘Bodyguard’ on the silver screen, it’s Satyagraha co-star Arjun Rampal who wants be Bebo’s protector in real life.

In a candid interview to News 24, Rampal, who reportedly plays a youth leader in Prakash Jha’s political thriller set to be released on Friday, vouchsafed for the actress’s security. Kareena, who plays a journalist in the movie, was asked if she “had a chance to shoot one question at the government what would that be?”
The actress, referring to Mumbai’s grim security scenario in the wake of a recent gangrape incident involving a photojournalist, replied, “Not only one, there are many question to which public wants an answer today.”
Sensing a direct answer was not given, film director Prakash Jha, who was also present at the scene, urged Kareena to answer the question. He sportingly said, “Ask the question and I will answer.”

Kareena retorted with a smile and asked if Jha considered taking a plunge on the political front. The actress however continued and asked, “If I am working as a journalist, I would like to know whether I
am safe walking on the streets.”

Before anybody could answer, Arjun magnificently rose to the occasion and said, “If she walks with me, she will be safe. “If she is with me, no one will dare to touch her. The actor re-affirmed. Kareena seemed pleased and asked “So I have a bodyguard?” to which the Rampal agreed. What say Nawab Saif Ali Khan?

Ajay hails reunion with Prakash Jha-latest news in bollywood

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn has reunited with his frequent collaborator Prakash Jha in the director’s upcoming Satyagraha and hopes the film does as good as their previous ventures.
latest news in bollywood

The 44-year-old actor and Jha have previously worked in films like Raajneeti, Apaharan, Gangaajal and Dil Kya Kare and this time the duo are back with a political
thriller.

“I am happy that all the films that we have worked in have been successful. I am very comfortable with him. It almost feels like I am working in my home production as there is not much difference between his and mine. I hope Satyagraha also to works with the audience,” Ajay told PTI.

The film, about the uprising of the middle class against a
corrupt and unjust system, also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpai, Kareena Kapoor and Amrita Rao.

Devgn plays the role of an activist-turned-politician in Satyagraha. “My character Manav Raghvendra obviously has so many shades in the character. He thinks like today’s youth. He takes the right decisions at the right time but also commits certain mistakes. He is very real and that is the beauty of the character,” Ajay said. The actor said that contrary to reports, his character has no similarity with Arvind Kejriwal. “There is no similarity with Arvind Kejriwal. When we had the first narration of film, we never had in mind that this is Anna Hazare or this is Kejriwal.

Bebo respects scribes more- Bollywood latest news

New Delhi: Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor says she now appreciates journalists even more after playing one in her forthcoming film Satyagraha.
The 32-year-old actress plays a television reporter, who keeps a tab on the entire movement in Prakash Jha’s political thriller.

“I understood that journalism and journalists have a lot of responsibility playing this part. It is difficult. I doappreciate and respect them a lot more now after having put myself in their shoes in Satyagraha,” Kareena told reporters here.

“My character is quite interesting. I play the voice ofthe whole movement. I believe today the media is the voice of the nation. We all depend on them for the right information the truth,” she added.

Satyagraha also stars megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpai and Amrita Rao.Kareena, who was last seen on the big screen in Talaash opposite Aamir Khan, says Satyagraha as the name suggests reflects the uprising of the middle class against a corrupt and unjust system but in a very peaceful way.

“I think that Satyagraha is a protest for the truth in a very peaceful fashion. In this film, there is no violence, there are no deaths. We are just asking for what we want.

There is nothing wrong to claim your rights,” the actress said.

Kareena also said that her character despite being a hard headed reporter joins the movement in the film. But when her ideologies clash with Ajay’s character, she distances herself from the movement.

“In the film I believe in what Amit ji’s character is doing. So my character kind of culminates the entire movement. She is the voice of the film, she has to let the common man know what is actually happening. After a while she does not believe in the movement anymore and she leaves it. So there is an entire transition to the character,” she said. Satyagraha will hit theatres this Friday.

Ranbir, Kat heading for new innings of life?- latest news in bollywood

New Delhi: Amid all the media speculations and gossips, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are learnt to be considering bringing their relationship out of the closet.
According to News24 sources, it has come to light that the Kapoor lad and his lady love might get engaged next month. If the grapevine is to be believed, on September 28, which happens to be Ranbir’s birthday, the couple will exchange engagement rings for starting a new innings in their lives.
latest news in bollywood

However, this information, which is in the realm of speculation, may give Ranbir’s dad Rishi some sleepless nights. It is already known that both Rishi and mom Nitu Kapoor were miffed about the pictures of their son and Kat in Spain. The duo’s recent trip to Spain had left many tongues wagging, with the pictures of the hottest actress in a bikini going viral online.
It was also reported that Rishi had scolded Kaif once when she came to his house to meet her rumoured beau. In an interview to a magazine, Kapoor Sr. had also warned ‘Chikni Chameli’ not to get too much involved with Ranbir. Even then, the 30-year-old diva reached the superstar’s bungalow.
According to reports, the veteran actor has been “playing cool” when he is really irked with his son’s romances and even appointed a guard to keep a track on latter’s whereabouts.
The couple will soon be seen in Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet. Pictures of the duo snapped at a coffee shop in Colombo were also revealed recently where the shooting for the film was going on.
The duo may have in the past refrained from speaking or accepting their relationship publicly, but one cannot just dismiss talks of an imminent engagement considering the fact Kat was seen dining with Ranbir’s mom Nitu in London. Nitu was, it was believed, not happy with her son’s relationship with Deepika Padukone earlier, but was OK with Katrina. However, the Ibiza scandal made things difficult for the Rockstar’s parents.

Satyagraha brings power on big screen-latest news in bollywood

New Delhi: He has a knack for making political thrillers and with his next film Satyagraha, coming out  on Friday, director Prakash Jha will focus on the common man and highlight his aggression, struggle and demand for justice.

latest news in bollywood

If the promos are anything to go by, there will be intense performances by the ensemble cast led by Amitabh Bachchan. Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Amrita Rao and Manoj Bajpayee also feature in the movie, which will be the solo Bollywood release this Friday, giving the political thriller an edge at the box office.

The trailer of the movie gives an insight to the plot, which revolves around the character of Big B, who goes on indefinite hunger strike in the Gandhian way to demand justice.

The scenes might remind the audience of the 2011 incident when social activist Anna Hazare went on a similar strike against the government. However, Jha has denied that Big B’s character is modelled on Hazare.

In an interview, he said, “The film is not based on Anna Hazare and has nothing to do with the movement. The entire process of ‘satyagraha’ comes from Gandhiji. Mr. Bachchan plays the role of a ‘satyagrahi’ who believes in truth.”

Primarily shot in Bhopal, Satyagraha has been produced by UTV Motion Pictures and it has reportedly been made on a budget of Rs.50 crore.

“I am very private as a person and I believe that by giving a statement to controversies I am giving importance to them due to which many more articles will pop up. I would rather just keep quiet,” said Priyanka in an interview.

Don’t blame me for rapes, says Poonam-latest news in bollywood

Mumbai: Controversial model Poonam Pandey is appalled, amused and annoyed by talk that her provocative pictures on the internet and in magazines are responsible for the increase in crimes against women.

Poonam, who recently made her Bollywood debut with a bold film Nasha, says she was “constantly badgered and persuaded to feel guilty about the crime” a day after the gang-rape of a photojournalist last week.

latest news in bollywood

“Apparently my pictures are responsible for crime against women. Ha ha, really? The same reasoning was used against me during the Nirbhaya case in Delhi. I want to ask all those people who find me provocative enough to induce crime, was there no crime against women before I arrived on the scene,” said Poonam.

She feels people need a scapegoat for their own failings.

“Why blame me for social evils? I am just a girl trying to find my place in the world. I’m used to being targeted by the moral police and the morcha-wallis. When law and order fails, the blame has to be pinned to some convenient target. But why blame me? What have I done?” she asked.

Main toh sirf baat karti hoon. Maine kuch kiya nahin ((I only talk. I haven’t done anything). There are renowned respected actresses who heave and thrust in item songs. They are watched by a lot more men than I am,” she added.
Poonam is adamant that rape has no connection with the pin-up provocateurs.

‘Post Rockstar, I was clueless’-Breaking news in India

Mumbai: US-born Nargis Fakhri, whose poised confident screen presence and a deep understanding of her role in Shoojit Sircar’s Madras Cafe is making people take note of her, says she was “clueless” after her debut film,Rockstar.

Breaking news in India

The period of exile after her 2011 debut was confusing for the actress. Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, actor Ranbir Kapoor and the rest of the Rockstar team had taken Nargis under their wings. But after the release, when she and performance were rejected, Nargis found herself isolated and disoriented in a city and profession she knew nothing about.
“I was clueless,” she said.

“It was a disappointing time for me. I couldn’t share it with my mother. Because she would’ve just ordered me to come home. But there was no dearth of work. I was getting these endorsements, shooting magazine covers. But very frankly,Rockstar was too vast an experience and culturally too distanced from where I come from, for me to handle,” said Nargis, who was born in New York.

“I didn’t understand the culture or the milieu. Just imagine - if tomorrow you’re offered the main lead in a big Chinese film where they tell you, you are the ideal choice. That’s exactly how I felt when I was did Rockstar,” she added.

Nevertheless, the deglamourised role of a war correspondent in the recently released John Abraham-starrer Madras Cafe fitted Nargis’ personality, she believes.

“I play a journalist. And I was required to speak only in English. My Hindi is still rusty. But at least now I understand Hindi, so when John Abraham speaks to me I am not lost.

“And I got to speak in my voice in Madras Cafe. So it’s one consistent performance visually and vocally. Speaking in someone else’s voice in Rockstarwas very confusing for my performance. I should’ve insisted on using my own voice. I guess I am not that kind of girl who throws a tantrum to get her away,” she said.

What Nargis enjoyed most in Madras Cafe was her role’s austere minimalist approach. The film released  on August 23

A day after complaint, Om Puri goes missing

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Om Puri has gone missing, a day after his wife Nandita Puri accused him of domestic violence and lodged a formal complaint with the police.

Sources told this newspaper that police are on the look-out for the actor who has been booked for allegedly assaulting his wife at his residence in Andheri, Mumbai.

Filing an FIR at Versova Police Station, Nandita alleged that her 62-year-old actor husband went to her house on Thursday and beat her up before being stopped by the couple’s son.

“He came home and got upset when told that I needed some money in view of the approaching festivals, as he was going for three months on a shooting schedule. He suddenly started beating me,” she said.

It is not the first time when the squabble between the couple has surfaced in public. Their marriage is probably on the rocks with the veteran actor reportedly denying any intentions to reconcile. “I need immediate justice. I cannot stay and continue to be beaten by him. He missed two hearings at the family court in Bandra,” Nandita said, demanding action against the actor. “I am not seeking divorce. I am just seeking for maintenance,” she said.

SRK wishes success for Singham 2-latest news in bollywood

Mumbai: Shah Rukh Khan has his fingers crossed for Rohit Shetty’s next offering Singham 2 and hopes that it surpasses the box office success of Chennai Express.

 latest news in bollywood

Singham 2, a sequel to one of the biggest hits of 2011, Singham, will have Ajay Devgn reprising the role of Bajirao Singham. The first one had crossed Rs.100 crore mark.

“I would pray that Inshallah his (Rohit Shetty) next Singham 2 does much more business than Chennai Express because he deserves it,” Shah Rukh said in an interview.

SRK teamed up with Shetty for the first time in romantic comedy Chennai Express, which is still running superfast at the box office. The Rs.75 crore film not only earned over Rs.100 crore within first weekend, but it also crossed Rs.200 crore mark in just two weeks.

Shah Rukh credits the film’s success to Shetty.

“Being a director is a very lonely job. So you don’t just thank them, you just stand by them. For the film also, as an actor, and as a friend we all tried to stand by him (Shetty)...,” said the superstar who is laughing all the way to the bank.

SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment co-produced Chennai Express with UTV Motion Pictures.

He added that “the goodness” that Shetty brought into the film has benefited everyone - him, his co-star Deepika Padukone and Disney UTV. “So we all are very very thrilled and we would like to stand by him, wherever he is as a director,” he added.

‘Mumbai not safe for women’-latest news in bollywood

Mumbai: Calling the recent gang-rape of a woman photojournalist in Mumbai a “wake-up call”, Bollywood’s actress brigade, including Shabana Azmi and Juhi Chawla have said the city isn’t safe anymore and that the incident has sent a “shock” down everyone’s spine.

Here’s what they had to say:

Juhi Chawla: Till now I was always proud of Mumbai. It was always vibrant and yet safe. This news comes as a shocker. I hope the victim will be healed and fine. I can’t imagine how painful and traumatic this must be for her and her family.Very tragic.

Dia Mirza: The question we should all be asking ourselves is not about Mumbai alone. But is India safe for women? Our men need emancipation. Our laws and the conviction for crimes against women need to
become much more stringent and timely. Men who perpetrate crimes against women should be punished swiftly and severely.

Neha Dhupia: This incident should wake up the spirit of Mumbai. And we should in some influential way punish each one of the criminals. An incident like this makes me sad and angry no matter where it happens.

Richa Chadda: The issue is not where it happens, but that it happens at all. The problem is with the Indian chauvinist male, who believes any woman stepping out of the house is meant for him to use and abuse - be it a student or a working woman. Let’s not lock up our girls, let’s teach the boys some manners.

Raveena Tandon: Mumbai is not safe for women. So far I felt it was because of the growing number of slums in the city. But crime against women is on the rise for no given reason.

Shabana Azmi: This ghastly incident is a wake-up call for all Mumbaikars who revel in calling our city the safest in India. The new rape law has not instilled any fear because of lack of faith in law and order. We need to tackle rape at many levels.
Reema Kagti: I don’t feel Mumbai or any other place in India is safe for working women.

How Salman Khan made it big at BO-latest news in bollywood

Mumbai: The blockbuster Khan of Bollywood aka Salman Khan has just successfully completed his 25 long years in the industry. His star power has of late turned him into money-spinner at the box office. However, it has been a roller-coaster ride for the actor so far. Dabangg Khan didn’t have a cakewalk as believed by many. The 47-year-old actor made his debut with Biwi Ho To Aisi in the year 1988. It was producer Suresh Bhagat who gave him his first break.
latest news in bollywood

Bhagat revealed in his exclusive interview to E24 that J.K. Bihari, director of the movie, made it quite difficult for Salman during his initial days. “We always knew Salman would make it big one day. His fearless factor was quite evident even then,” he added.

Salman was given only Rs 11,000 as a signing amount for his first break. Interestingly, most of the clothes worn by the actor in the film were his own, recalls the producer. Despite being veteran script-writer Salim Khan’s son, the actor had his struggling days just like any other debutante making his foray in the film industry.
Salman’s father wanted him to prove himself and not rely on any kind of support from the family by using his ‘surname’, revealed a close friend. It is learnt that Salim Khan even had a long discussion with film director Bihari and quizzed him about his son’s acting skills.

It is hard to believe for his fans that the Khan, who is known as someone whose name spells success at the box office, was once scrutinized for his acting skills. Although Salman made his debut with Biwi Ho To Aisi, it is Maine Pyar kiya, which is believed to be his first big break in Bollywood.

Soon, with a string of successes, he made it big in the early 1990s. Soon after Shah Rukh Khan joined the party, the trio (including Aamir Khan) went on to create raves at the box offices. The Khan war that Bollywood is witnessing today actually started in the last millennium, though they were not averse to doing films together, eg. Karan Arjun and Andaz Apna Apna.

Among the all three, the Dabangg Khan has not only become a reigning star, but has also managed to rule the hearts of millions, with his boyish charm almost intact.

The police have lodged complaint under Section 324, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code. Investigations are on.

latest news in bollywood- ‘Another shame’: Celebs disgusted

New Delhi: There was an avalanche of outrage across the country as one and all despised the gangrape of a young photojournalist in Mumbai.

Apart from reactions coming out from all walks of life, Bollywood celebrities and distinguished people voiced their comments and outrage in several micro-blogging sites showing serious discontent and anguish.

Actor Irrfan Khan said such crimes are the result of a complex problem. “One must look at the complexity of the problem. Bombay is comparatively a safe city but it (rape cases) will grow more and more because of the way the system is handling it. I think it doesn’t give you a good sign. Till the time we are sympathetic to the creature (women) and do not respect her, I think it will continue to happen. There is censorship today but what kind of censorship... Women are used as a product,” he said.
